Two women were out kayaking in Plymouth, Massachusetts watching seals, when their kayak was bitten by a great white shark.
The duo were around 100 yards off shore September 3 when the shark bit one of the girl’s kayaks.
“We were just talking and paddling. I look over to talk to her and it came completely out of the water and got the bottom of the boat and flipped her over and knocked my kayak completely over. I saw at least four feet of its head. Four feet of it came up out of the water,”Ida Parker told WHDH
Both were scared to death as the feared the shark may come back for them.
“We were sitting in the water and she was sinking and I was flipped over holding onto the bottom of the kayak. It was petrifying waiting in that water for the harbormaster to come and not knowing if anybody would come get us,”Ida said adding “The scariest part was sitting in the water thinking he was waiting, wondering where he was. You didn’t know if he was under you or around you.”
The harbor master was able to rescue the girls after they spent around 30 minutes in the water. One of the girls had a GoPro attached to the front of her kayak and hopes someone will recover the footage.
Both girls were unharmed. The shark may have been curious, or confused the kayak for a food source. After tasting the kayak it probably realized it was not food and moved on.
The harbormaster examined the teeth marks and confirmed it was a great white shark that was approximately 12-to 14-feet long.
